Catalyst Review: A Fixed-Payout Challenge on Polymarket Events
Catalyst runs a prop-style challenge on Polymarket, but it isn't a classic funded account. You pay a one-time fee, trade live Polymarket events in a simulated account, and if you hit the profit target within the rules, you receive a fixed payout. Catalyst doesn't take a cut, but your reward is the fixed award for your tier, not a share of what you make.
The operator is Trade Catalyst Inc. Its site says it is not a registered broker-dealer, investment adviser or commodity trading advisor, and that Catalyst is not available in all jurisdictions. No real securities or commodities are bought or sold. Awards are paid in U.S. dollars.
Account Tiers
| Tier | Fee | Account | Profit target | Max loss (trailing) | Position cap | Payout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $10 | $1,000 | $150 (15%) | $50 (5%) | 25 shares | $100 |
| Pro | $59 | $10,000 | $1,500 (15%) | $500 (5%) | 250 shares | $750 |
| Elite | $109 | $25,000 | $3,000 (12%) | $1,000 (4%) | 500 shares | $1,500 |
| Max | $199 | $50,000 | $6,000 (12%) | $2,000 (4%) | 1,000 shares | $3,000 |
Each payout is about 10–15× the fee. The trade-off is the risk budget: the trailing max loss is a third of the profit target, so you need to make $3 for every $1 of drawdown you can absorb.
The Rules
- Profit target. Closed-trade profit equal to the tier's target, reached within 50 trades. Profit targets replaced the old qualifying-trade count, so you no longer need a minimum number of trades.
- Consistency. No single day can account for more than 35% of total profit.
- Trailing drawdown. Your open balance can't drop more than the max-loss amount below its high-water mark.
- No daily loss limit. Only the trailing drawdown applies.
- Time limit. 60 days to pass.
- Position cap. Fixed per tier, from 25 shares (Starter) to 1,000 shares (Max).
Payouts
The payout goes to your Catalyst wallet as soon as you pass. There are no minimum trading days and no approval step, and you can withdraw immediately. Catalyst says withdrawals can arrive in under a minute, with a stated "1 day" to get paid. Withdrawals of $100 or more are free; smaller ones carry a $10 processing fee. A 10% wallet purchase bonus exists, but it can't be withdrawn.
What Gives Us Pause
Payout safety is the question that matters most, and the answer is limited. Everything happens on Catalyst's own servers: the account is simulated, the rules are enforced off-chain, and there is no onchain record of passes or payouts that anyone can check. The country of incorporation isn't disclosed. Independent payout verification isn't available yet. The low entry price limits how much you can lose, but it doesn't change how much you have to trust the operator.
The fixed payout also limits your upside. On the Max tier, passing with $6,000 or $16,000 in simulated profit pays the same $3,000.
The Verdict
Catalyst is the cheapest way on this list to test a prediction-market edge. A $10 Starter challenge is close to free tuition. The no-daily-loss-limit rule and instant payout on pass are trader-friendly. But it is a centralized, simulated product with no onchain verifiability, so treat it as a paid skill contest rather than a funded trading account.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a Catalyst challenge cost?
Catalyst charges a one-time fee with no subscription: $10 for Starter ($1,000 account), $59 for Pro ($10,000), $109 for Elite ($25,000), and $199 for Max ($50,000). Refunds are available within 14 days of purchase if no trades have been placed.
Does Catalyst have a profit split?
No. Each tier has a fixed payout instead of a split: $100 (Starter), $750 (Pro), $1,500 (Elite), or $3,000 (Max). The payout is credited to your Catalyst wallet when you pass the challenge.
What are the Catalyst challenge rules?
Hit the closed-trade profit target within 50 trades and 60 days, with no single day contributing more than 35% of total profit. The drawdown is trailing: the open balance can't fall more than the tier's max loss below its high. There is no daily loss limit.
Is Catalyst trading onchain?
No. Catalyst runs a simulated account priced off live Polymarket events. No real positions are opened on Polymarket, and accounts, rules and payouts are not verifiable onchain. Awards are paid in U.S. dollars by Trade Catalyst Inc.
Are there withdrawal fees on Catalyst?
Withdrawals of $100 or more are free. Withdrawals under $100 carry a $10 processing fee.
